To work with individual objects within a group, either ungroup the objects, or use the Subselection tool to subselect only the objects you want to modify.
Subselection tool
Modifying the attributes of a subselected object changes only the subselected object and not the entire group. Moving a subselected object to another layer removes the object from the group.

To select an object within a group:
1 | Choose the Subselection tool. |
2 | Click the object. |

To select a group that contains the selected object:
Choose Edit > Superselect.
To subselect all objects within a group:
1 | Select the group. |
2 | Choose Edit > Subselect. |
Each object within the group becomes individually selected. To deselect an object in the group, hold down Shift and click the object. | |
